hope as haunting
hope as haunting follows on from the past in progress. That record heard the past chewing on itself, the haunting Mark Fisher and others described, and the answer was already in it: a shell recursing on itself, a fossil, a title that says the past is still in progress. Hauntology assumes something was once truly new. But reality, physics, the earth, the limits of perception have always bounded what's possible, and climbing a rung doesn't put you somewhere that can ignore the ladder or the rungs below it. Nothing was ever finished enough to be called repeatable. The fragments we leave behind get found and treated as new, and maybe that isn't a bug but a feature.
It's built from RF recordings I made with a SOMA Ether, mixed with solo guitar passages that float unbound. The guitar always sits behind the noise, and it's never lost. The last track was made using rotting.'s method. A fragment I found of me singing, then repeated and mutated. I don't know why I broke the formula.
